In 1995 when the Canadian Council of War Veterans Association made the very difficult decision to relinquish responsibility for the ownership and operation of their beloved Camp Maple Leaf to Banyan Community Services, Banyan’s promise to them was to ensure that no child would ever be refused an opportunity to attend Camp for a week based on economics. We have lived up to that promise and currently generate in excess of $160,000 annually to send kids to Camp.
In 1995 when the Camp came under Banyan’s umbrella, the buildings and equipment were 50 years old. In order to maintain our promise to the Veterans we need to make sure that the buildings and equipment meet current operating standards. That’s where you come in.
There are currently 19 buildings on Jacob’s Island that require tender loving care to ensure their safety and operation. The buildings include 12 cabins, Alumni Hall (recreation centre), 1 craft building, 1 comfort station, 1 nature hut, the main dining hall, Halton Hall which is a winterized accommodation and activity space for up to 18 people and houses the Camp’s first aid center, and the Annex which is the Camp’s hub and center of operations on the island.
Your commitment to the kids of Camp Maple Leaf is over a period of three to five years –from $1,000 to $10,000 annually. HELP US KEEP THE VETERAN’S DREAMS ALIVE... ...
